The Research Institute for Physical Chemical Problems of the Belarusian State University was organized on the base of research groups worked at the chairs of BSU chemical faculty according to the decision of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR ¹ 371 dated November 22nd, 1977 and the Institute begun to function since May 1st, 1978. After the state re-registration at the end of 1999 it is referred to as the Establishment of the Belarusian State University «Research Institute for Physical Chemical Problems» (RI PCP BSU). The main tasks of the Institute are: · organization of R & D and carrying out of the work on the most topical problems of chemistry and related sciences; scientific and innovative activity in the field of chemistry and chemical technology; · training of (in cooperation with educational divisions of the BSU) QSE with higher education on chemical specialties; development of scientific and pedagogical staff of the higher qualification - Candidates of Sciences (equivalent to Ph.D.) and Doctors of Sciences (equivalent to Prof.) - for the scientific-engineering complex and the national economy of Belarus as well. Since 1978 to the present the Institute was headed by the following scientists:
For a long period of time the following scientists were the researches and the leaders of Institute scientific divisions. They are the next academician of the NAS of Belarus Lesnikovich A.I.; Corresponding Members of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR Tishchenko I.G. and Starobinets G.L.; Doctors of Sciences (Chemistry) professors Vecher A.A., Petryaev E.P., Matusevich P.A., and other scientists. At present the Institute consists of 19 scientific divisions. 172 workers including 124 researchers are working in the institute. The research staff includes 7 Doctors of Sciences, five of them have the academic rank of the professor and one of them is the Academician of NAS of Belarus, 57 researchers have Ph.D. degree. 11 Doctors of Sciences including two Academician NAS of Belarus are working on the continuing base and realize scientific supervision in the institute divisions Over the Institute lifetime the purposeful work connected with training of the researchers with high qualification has been carried out. 24 of the thesis for a Doctor's degree and 189 of Ph.D. thesis were trained and defended in the Institute divisions. The Establishment of the Belarusian State University «Research Institute for Physical Chemical Problems» (RIPCP BSU) is one of the key institutions of the chemical specialization in Belarus. The scientific and engineering potential of the RI PCP BSU allows to solve complicated complex problems in the different fields of chemistry and chemical technology and to realize the scientific and engineering support of the separate manufactures and even some branches of chemical and pharmaceutical industries enterprises connected with the recycling of wastes and organization of low-capacity and science intensive chemical industries. Institute is determined as a head organization-executor of the state scientific and technical programs such as «Pharmaceutical substance and drugs inventory» (subprogram of «Drugs inventory»), «Chemical technologies and manufactories» (subprogram of «Low-capacity chemistry»), state program «Innovation biotechnologies» (subprogram of «Bioenergetics, energy resources»), state scientific research programs such as «Chemical reagents and materials» and «Fundamental and applied medicine and pharmacy» for the period of 2011-2015. As a result of the Institute investigations 59 monographs and collections of papers, conference materials, reference media and 31 tutorials for the students of chemical and other specialties (ten from them have the signature of Ministry of Education of Republic) were published. Researches of the institute have been published more than 5430 scientific papers and 4830 abstracts, 1470 scientific papers and 1007 abstracts were published far abroad. The collection of papers, two tutorials and two chapters in the monographs, 193 papers and 177 abstracts were published in 2011 y. New technique, technologies and materials in the quantity 21 were created in 2011y., twelve of them were introduced at the enterprises. Institute received 877 titles, including 708 copyright certificates USSR for inventions, 148 patents for inventions, 6 patents for utility model, 15 certificates of registration of trademarks on the objects of industrial property. Three patents for the invention of Poland, 22 patents for the invention of Belarus, two patents for utility models were received by Institute in 2011 y. Institute has 19 registered license agreements for the right for the industrial property usage. Six license agreements were registered in 2011 y. Institute`s developments were awarded to 39 medals (16 gold, 14 silver, 8 bronze and one special), 20 diplomas on the international exhibitions and shows. Institute received two medals and four diplomas in 2011 y. Institute`s collective for the considerable contribution in organization and practical realization of the results of scientific research in the field of chemistry and chemical technology was awarded to Honourable Diploma of Belarus Council of Ministers in 2009 y., in 1998 y. was awarded to Honourable Diploma of the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus and Honor Diploma of the Ministry of Education of Belarus. According to the results of yearly republican competition between state scientific organizations and scientific service organizations RI PCP BSU was recognized as the winner: 2005, 2007, 2010, 2011 y. – first place, 2006 y. – second place. Institute five times was recognized on the Republican board of Honor. The research-and-production unitary enterprises of «Unidragmet of the BSU» and «Unihimprom of the BSU» organized in structure of the BSU in 1999-2001y were based on the structural divisions, staff potential of the Institute.
